The article “Esophageal Dysmotility in Young Dogs” describes poor esophageal motility in young Terrier breed dogs with and without clinical signs. Most of these dogs had improved esophageal motility with time, although they did not return to normal. The group of asymptomatic dogs suggests that this might be a subclinical, breed-related condition. The authors also note that there are studies that report an increase in esophageal foreign bodies in Terrier breeds. Perhaps this is related to poor esophageal function.
